What to expect at Blaue Lagune Rosbach/Frankfurt (D)

CURRENTLY CLOSED! In the immediate vicinity of the A5/Friedberg motorway exit, the Saunaclub Blaue Lagune is located in an industrial area in Rosbach vor der Höhe. The club turns out to be a secluded little house, where the wet area with sauna, whirlpool, solarium and playground is housed in the basement, and a small bar room with stools and canapés as seating represents the main hangout spot. The dreamy backdrop of the outdoor area comes across as very charming, with a garden pond, pool terrace and a nicely decorated, decommissioned motorboat. With its 5-10 girls, the club is notably calm, and anyone looking for a relaxing alternative to the nearby super-club FKK Oase should definitely consider a visit to the Blaue Lagune.

Frankfurt am Main:

It's 420 km to Berlin, 390 km to Hamburg, 150 km to Köln and 200 km to München (each as the crow flies): Frankfurt am Main is an ancient trading city in the heart of Germany, with around 750,000 inhabitants smaller than the four German metropolises with over a million inhabitants, yet in many respects a city of superlatives, far outshining all other German cities in importance.

That already holds true in the literal sense: the impressive skyline of Frankfurt's skyscrapers is unique in Germany. The ten tallest buildings in Germany are all located in Frankfurt without exception, including the Commerzbank Tower, the Messeturm, the Main Tower and the ECB building.

But Frankfurt is also one of the most important business centres in the entire world; many German or former German major corporations have or had their headquarters there, including the once world's largest chemical company Hoechst, Metallgesellschaft, VDM, Cassella, Hartmann & Braun, Degussa, VDO or Deutsche Bahn, as well as of course numerous banks and financial institutions, above all Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and Deutsche Börse AG. Frankfurt is home to the largest German financial exchange, the Deutsche Bundesbank and the European Central Bank. Reflecting the importance of the old trade routes, the Frankfurt motorway interchange is the most frequented traffic junction in Europe, Frankfurt Airport is one of the world's most important aviation hubs, and of course you'll also find one of Germany's most important trade fair venues here.

According to surveys, the vibrant trading metropolis also ranks among the big cities with the highest quality of life in international comparison, even if negative aspects like a relatively high crime rate and rents somewhat dim the overall impression. Frankfurt is in any case not just a must for business travellers, but also entices tourists with many attractions. That starts with the historic old town backdrop near the banks of the Main with the Kaiserdom, Römerberg, Goethe-Haus and Paulskirche, all the more so since the city has now, in a 200-million-euro project on an area of seven hectares, had an ensemble of a total of 15 houses around the historic Krönungsweg reconstructed and a further 20 built in historic style. This was the path taken from 1562 onwards - after the switch of the election and coronation site from Aachen to Frankfurt - until the end of the Holy Roman Empire by the Roman-German emperors on their way to the Kaiserdom. Frankfurt Cathedral - built between 1250 and 1514 - is thus one of the most significant structures in German imperial history. In the not-too-distant Paulskirche, meanwhile, the German National Assembly met from May 1848 to May 1849, attempting for the first time on German soil to establish a democratic-parliamentary German nation state.

A hundred years later, the city - first documented in 794 AD, once a Free Imperial City - very nearly became the capital of the young Federal Republic of Germany. Even though nothing came of that - the city has undergone rapid growth in recent decades and brought great prosperity to its citizens. In the city centre, the above-average purchasing power of the public is reflected in the temples of consumerism along one of Germany's largest shopping streets: the Frankfurter Zeil with the adjoining Goethestraße. Those who can afford it and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city seek residence in the idyllically situated spa towns of the neighbouring Hochtaunus: Königstein, Bad Homburg or Kronberg are home to numerous high-earning Frankfurters and rank among the wealthiest municipalities in Germany.

Those who'd rather stay in the city are offered plenty when it comes to culture and leisure activities: the Oper Frankfurt, the Theater am Turm or the long-established Gallus Theater, the Museumsufer on the Sachsenhausen side of the Main with houses such as the Städel, the Liebighaus or the Museum der Weltkulturen, as well as a pulsating nightlife away from all that. Frankfurt is not only home to the traditional football club Eintracht Frankfurt, but also the headquarters of the most important German sports associations such as the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB), Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund (DOSB), Deutscher Turner-Bund (DTB) or Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB).

Among Frankfurt's well-known sons and daughters are numerous members of the banking dynasties Rothschild and Oppenheim(er), Caspar & Maria Sibylla Merian as well as Theodor W. Adorno, Bettina von Arnim, Heinrich Hoffmann, Friedrich Wöhler, Otto Emil Hahn, Arthur Schopenhauer and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Heinrich Hoffmann, Erich Fromm, Anne Frank, Wolfdietrich Schnurre, Albert Mangelsdorff, Dieter Wedel, Wolfgang Spier, Marika Kilius, Jean Frankfurter, Michael Groß, Thor Kunkel, Hans Zimmer, Peter Kloeppel, Hannes Jaenicke, Birgit Prinz, Jessica Wahls, Namika, Sonya Kraus, Moses Pelham and Sabrina Setlur.

Rosbach vor der Höhe & Rodheim vor der Höhe:

Rosbach is a small town in Hessen in the western part of the Wetteraukreis and consists of the three districts Ober-Rosbach, Nieder-Rosbach and Rodheim. Rosbach was first documented in the year 884, while the originally independent district of Rodheim was already recorded in 805 in the Lorsch Codex. In the year 884, Ober-Rosbach was given as an imperial gift to the Kloster Fulda. Later the town passed into the possession of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt, the Count of Nassau and the Elector and Archbishop of Trier. In 1663 the community was granted town rights. On 1 August 1972, the town of Rosbach was merged with the municipality of Rodheim vor der Höhe as part of the Hessian municipal territorial reform to form the town of Rosbach vor der Höhe.

Among the sights are the Roman fort Kapersburg on the Limes, listed since 2005 as one of the best-preserved sites of the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes on the World Heritage list, the Wasserburg in Nieder-Rosbach as well as the church tower in Rodheim from the 18th century.

The historically significant cultural landscape of the Wetterau and Taunus can be explored via the cycling and hiking trails. Cultural and sporting events round off the programme. The town also has its own outdoor pool. The old tradition of walking over the Kirschenberg during blossom season is honoured by the annual Blütenfest, followed by the enthronement of the Blütenkönigin. During the walk, participants learn interesting facts and anecdotes about the town and the surrounding area. Accommodation in various price ranges is offered by hotels as well as private landlords in the three districts.

Due to its proximity to Frankfurt am Main Airport (35 kilometres), the gateway to the world, Rosbach has good infrastructure. Its location on the A5 offers quick access to the Rhein-Main region as well as to the Mittelhessen region and to Gießen. Rosbach can be reached by bus or train using public transport. The singer of the girl group "No Angels", Jessica Wahls, lives in Rodheim.
