The Club Golden Night is located 8 km northeast of Herford on the B61 towards Bad Oeynhausen.
Herford lies in the Ravensberg hill country in East Westphalia, a stretch of land that the state partners in NRW - the Rhinelanders - not infrequently mock as somewhat too staid and provincial. What can you expect from a town like Herford, when even the largest city in the sector - Bielefeld - is occasionally jokingly rumoured not to actually exist?
Well, in 2015 the Archdiocese of Paderborn, with which Herford is closely linked through the so-called Herford Vision, caused a stir when it disclosed its finances, revealing that it was not cosmopolitan Cologne but the otherwise rather unspectacular Paderborn that is Germany's richest diocese. Aside from that, the town of Herford, where the Aa flows into the Werre not far from the Weser, is a town with a rich past. As early as the 10th century, Otto the Great granted the town market privileges, making Herford one of the oldest German markets. Right up until the age of the Reformation, the Jakobikirche, a Gothic hall church, was a gathering point for pilgrims of St James on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Likewise conceived as a hall church is the town's late Romanesque Münsterkirche from the 13th century.
Like many other towns in the Weser catchment area, the old town offers a charming ensemble of half-timbered buildings in the style of the Weser Renaissance. The Neuer Markt in the centre of the Neustadt is also shaped by half-timbered and Renaissance architecture, while the town hall next to the Münsterkirche is built in the neo-baroque style.
Herford is nestled in the hill country between the appealing ridges of the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehen Hills, and thus has restful natural landscapes within immediate reach. Nonetheless, the town is also a significant business location for the region, particularly for companies from the textile, furniture and food industries. The clothing manufacturers Ahlers, Bugatti and Brax Leineweber are headquartered in Herford and also run factory outlets here.
