Saunaclub - Made in Germany

English:

Sauna club "Made in Germany" - the idea of transferring recreational facilities into a brothel is actually obvious, since Germany is considered one of the few countries in which the oldest profession in the world has not yet been degraded as illegal and attracts so many Eastern Europeans who earn their living with prostitution, as it is forbidden in their home country. But the origin of the sauna and the resulting sauna club lies elsewhere.

Basically the expression "Saunaclub", also called "FKK Club" or "Kontaktsauna" - a sauna environment, which is used for establishing contacts -, means a spa facility in which the visitor can relax and also bathe, but also has the possibility of making sexual approaches to the women and men employed there.

But where does the idea of combining a sauna, i.e. a helth resort, with a kind of brothel into a sauna club come from?

The basic idea of the sauna itself already existed in the Stone Age. There, people placed hot stones in pits in the floor, which were then covered with water. Also in the Middle Ages there were so-called "bath houses", which come very close to today's sauna. There the sexual exchange with other guests was welcome, unlike with an ordinary sauna as we know it today.

Of course the Romans were not uninvolved either: Many walls were found, which were decorated with erotic representations and belonged once to the baths at that time, in which sexual activities were at the agenda. Even today, some sauna clubs or wellness temples are still called "Roman baths".

The oldest find is almost 2,500 years old and of Greek origin. Although the word "sauna" originated in the Finnish language, the oldest finds of today's sauna can be found in East Asia. From there they were spread to Central and South America.

The Finns, who migrated about 2,000 years ago from their original homeland in Asia to their present habitat, finally brought this form of relaxation and bathing to Europe.

But what has become of the sauna club?

In the meantime the sexual aspect had completely disappeared from the recreational concept due to the theological change and the spread of Christianity. While sexual contacts were welcome in all types of bathhouses at the time, they are strictly forbidden in a normal sauna today, which is not expressly a sauna club. But the desire for erotic contacts, combined with the need for relaxation and recovery, ultimately brought back the idea of the fusion of sauna and brothel. The sauna club enjoyed a comeback. Bernds FKK Saunaclub, also known as "Schieferhof", was founded in 1981 and is therefore one of the first sauna clubs in Germany, according to the club's website. Since 1973, however, the Club Big Spender exists in Kassel, which has also functioned as a sauna club since 2003. However, one should not forget that a sauna club cannot be compared to a swingers club or a brothel.

In any case, a high standard of hygiene is typical for a sauna club. As a matter of course, all employees work on a voluntary basis. Forced prostitution, as it may occur in some brothels or on the street, is hard to find in a sauna club.

The prostitutes also decide for themselves what they offer and what is taboo for them. Fixed prices, however, prevent excessive competition for customers. The sauna club is one of the oldest businesses in the world, along with prostitution, and carries the promising label "Made in Germany".
